About the Latched Mama Nursing Nest
Making nursing easier, one space at a time
The Latched Mama Nursing Nest™ started with a simple idea: mamas deserve a clean, comfortable, private place to nurse or pump, even at a baseball game on a hot Virginia summer night.
In 2018, after hearing from moms about the lack of options at The Diamond in Richmond, Latched Mama founder Melissa Wirt partnered with the Richmond Flying Squirrels to create the very first Latched Mama Nursing Nest. Since then, the program has expanded into local schools and community spaces, because life doesn't stop just because you're breastfeeding.

Latched Mama was founded in the fall of 2014 by Melissa Wirt, a mom of six who saw a gap in comfortable, affordable nursing wear and decided to fill it herself. What started as a small online store has grown into a community-driven brand serving hundreds of thousands of nursing moms across the country.
At our core, we believe in moms supporting moms. From our baby-friendly workplace to our thriving online community, everything we do is rooted in encouragement, empowerment, and showing mamas that they're doing great, because they are.

Latched Mama was born on a park bench at the playground. I distinctly remember unzipping my sweatshirt and being incredibly cold while Alex ate. I remember making sure that the cold, hard zipper wasn't pushing against his cheek and suddenly thinking that there had to be a better way. I researched what was available in the market and was turned away by the pricing. So I set off to create styles that were functional, comfortable and affordable.
